6 Questions To Answer Before Renovating a Bathroom

Bathrooms are one of the most common rooms to remodel

But, they’re also one of the most expensive!

Running anywhere from $2000 to $10,000 depending on the scale of the remodel

And when you’re investing that kind of money in a project

You want to make sure there’s no margin for error

That’s why I’m going to share some simple questions you should answer

Before you decide on renovating your bathroom

Now, here are the 6 questions you should answer before you renovate your bathroom.

WHAT IS YOUR BUDGET?

It’s important to determine your budget before you even start thinking about the details of your remodel. That way you avoid having dreams that are bigger than your wallet can accommodate.  Imagine getting partway through the remodeling process. Only to discover you’ve run out of funds. There’s nothing worse than an unfinished and potentially unusable bathroom.

WHO IS THE REMODEL FOR?

Before you go ahead and pick out your favorite tiles, wall colors, and bathroom fixtures

Ask yourself this: Are you remodeling the bathroom for yourself? Or is this an upgrade you’re making to attract buyers to the house? If you’re remodeling for yourself, then your choices are as easy as “what do I like best?” But, if the remodel is for the purposes of selling your home, things can be more complicated. It’s a good idea to ask your real estate agent or a professional home stager. What the most appealing colors and bathroom features are to most buyers? And, what renovations are going to give me the best return on my investment?

HOW WILL THE REMODEL IMPACT YOUR DAY-TO-DAY LIFE?

Rome wasn’t built in a day, and your new bathroom won’t be either. So, you need to consider how this remodel will affect your day-to-day life. For example, if the bathroom is out of commission. Do you have another in the home you can use? If not, you need to factor in where you’re going to be able to do your business!

WILL YOU WORK WITH A CONTRACTOR OR DIY?

If your bathroom only needs some new tile and maybe a fresh coat of paint, You may decide to cut costs and do the remodel yourself. But in most cases, the smartest choice is to work with a contractor. Who’s familiar with regulations and can get the job done right the first time Now, choosing a contractor is a whole other process, But here are a few questions to consider when you’re looking for one:

● Are they licensed and insured?

● Can you see a profile of their past work?

● Do they normally take on projects of this scope?

● How many other people will be working in your home?

● What is covered in the contract?

Your real estate agent likely has a contractor they’ve worked with in the past. Who has a proven track record that you can rely on? So always ask your agent when you need help with things like this.

HOW MUCH SPACE ARE YOU WORKING WITH?

Before you commit yourself to adding additional storage or upgrading to his and her sinks

Make sure you have enough space to accommodate these upgrades. If storage is the most important, then you can compromise on adding a second sink.

WHAT FEATURES DO YOU WANT TO INCLUDE?

These days, energy-efficient homes are a huge draw. Especially for millennial buyers, who are dominating the market. With that in mind, you might choose to prioritize items like low-flush toilets and energy-efficient showerheads over cosmetic upgrades.
